We’re celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal, which played a key role in making New York the “Empire State.” This concert will explore four principal elements of music: rhythm, melody, harmony, and timbre. Through music by diverse composers, students will learn how each element is built to create symphonic music, just as the canal created a beautiful community where we all live. As we journey along the Erie Canal, we’ll discover how it shaped the past, and what it means for the future.

This program aligns with New York State Next Generation Learning Standards for ELA and Literacy and NYS Social Studies Standards.
