For 5th – 8th grades
We’re celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal, which played a key role in making New York the “Empire State.” This concert will explore four principal elements of music: rhythm, melody, harmony, and timbre. Students will make connections between the contour and roles of the Erie Canal to the musical contour and roles of instruments in diverse repertoire. As we journey along the Erie Canal, we’ll discover how it shaped the past, and what it means for the future.
This program aligns with New York State Next Generation Learning Standards for ELA and Literacy and NYS Social Studies Standards.
